Japanese-Inspired R&B Speakeasy 'Last Train to Shibuya' Opens Inside Saucin Wings in Seminole Heights

A new culinary and nightlife experience for Tampa

Seminole Heights residents now have a new destination for unique dining and nightlife. Last Train to Shibuya, an R&B speakeasy and fusion kitchen, opened its doors inside Saucin Wings at 4725 North Nebraska Ave. The establishment offers a blend of Japanese design and Southern food traditions, operating as a reservation-only lounge.

Journey from Tokyo to Tampa: The concept's genesis

Co-founders Camille Baker and Dainelle Riley developed the concept for Last Train to Shibuya after a 2024 trip through Tokyo, Yokohama, Shibuya, and Shinjuku. Their travels exposed them to the connection between Japanese nightlife and Black American culture, including Southern and Caribbean traditions. This experience inspired the speakeasy's R&B-only music policy and Japanese-influenced design.

A taste of Japan with Southern flair

Chef Chris Riley runs the kitchen, preparing fusion dishes that combine Southern cooking with Japanese preparation methods. The menu features three distinct bao options: Short Rib Bao, Catfish Po-Bao, and Southern Fried Chicken Bao. The Short Rib Bao includes soy-mirin glazed beef and Kewpie mayo. Catfish Po-Bao comes with yuzu glaze and Japanese mayo. Southern Fried Chicken Bao offers karaage-style chicken, miso honey, and pickled jalapeño. Other menu items include Fried Greens Gyoza, made with slow-braised mustard greens and ponzu sauce. Wing flavors available are Tokyo Hot, Miso Honey Garlic, and Yuzu Pepper.

The drink menu complements the theme with music-themed cocktails. "The Lychee Is Mine" is a lychee martini with elderflower. "Come & Tokyo To Me" is a Japanese whisky old fashioned with black cherry. "Soju Seduction" combines sparkling Aperol with soju.

Intimate ambiance and exclusive access

Last Train to Shibuya features two distinct seating areas: the Main Floor and the Dining Room Conversation Lounge. Both spaces maintain low lighting and intimate seating arrangements, creating an exclusive atmosphere. Guests must make reservations through the venue's online booking system to gain entry, as the speakeasy remains hidden from street view.
