A Storm Surge Warning is in effect for Mobile, Prichard, and Theodore, with life-threatening storm surge of 2-4 feet and major flooding expected through Saturday morning; residents must shelter in place and complete flood preparations immediately.
MOBILE CENTRAL – A Storm Surge Warning has been issued for Mobile, Prichard, and Theodore, effective immediately, October 9 at 3:55 PM CDT, by the National Weather Service (NWS) Mobile AL. This warning indicates a life-threatening storm surge is possible, with peak inundation of 2-4 feet above ground in surge-prone areas, continuing through Saturday morning.
Residents in affected areas are urged to remain sheltered in a safe location and avoid venturing outside. Flood preparations and ordered evacuations should be complete. Evacuees should be in shelters well away from storm surge flooding.
A Flood Watch is also in effect, with potential for major flooding from heavy rain. Emergency plans should include the potential for major flooding, as evacuations and rescues are likely. Heed all flood watches and warnings; failure to take action could result in serious injury or loss of life.
Wind speeds of 25-35 mph with gusts up to 65 mph are expected, posing a threat of limited damage to property and potential power outages. Complete remaining efforts to protect property as soon as possible and move to safe shelter before hazardous winds begin. Tornadoes are not expected at this time.
