Life-Threatening Rip Currents, High Surf Expected Through Sunday

A Rip Current Statement and High Surf Warning are in effect for coastal Mobile, Baldwin, Escambia, Santa Rosa, and Okaloosa counties, with life-threatening rip currents and dangerously large breaking waves expected through Sunday afternoon.

Coastal residents and visitors in Mobile, Baldwin, Escambia, Santa Rosa, and Okaloosa counties are advised to stay out of the water immediately. A Rip Current Statement and High Surf Warning have been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Mobile AL, effective until Sunday afternoon for rip currents and Saturday midnight for high surf.

Dangerous rip currents are expected through Sunday afternoon. Additionally, a High Surf Warning is in effect until midnight CDT Saturday night, with dangerously large breaking waves. Waves are forecast to reach 10 to 15 feet along Alabama beaches and 20 to 25 feet along northwest Florida beaches through tonight. While surf will decrease Saturday morning, it will remain elevated.

The NWS warns that breaking waves can sweep individuals off jetties and docks into dangerous seas. Life-threatening swimming conditions and significant beach erosion are expected. Rip currents pose a serious threat, capable of pulling even strong swimmers away from shore into deeper water.

For your safety, everyone should remain out of the water due to these life-threatening surf conditions. Additionally, stay off jetties, piers, and any other waterside infrastructure.
