Wind Advisory and Extreme Heat Warning Issued for San Diego Inland Valleys
A Wind Advisory and Extreme Heat Warning have been issued for the San Diego County Inland Valleys, bringing strong winds up to 50 mph and dangerously hot temperatures up to 105 degrees; residents should take precautions against heat-related illnesses and difficult driving conditions.
Residents in the San Diego County Inland Valleys should prepare for a combination of strong winds and extreme heat, effective immediately. The National Weather Service (NWS) San Diego has issued a Wind Advisory and an Extreme Heat Warning for the area.
The Wind Advisory is in effect from 6 AM PDT Saturday, October 3, until 6 PM PDT Saturday, October 3. East winds are expected to reach 25 to 35 mph, with gusts up to 50 mph. These winds can make driving difficult, particularly for high-profile vehicles, and may cause unsecured objects to blow around. There is also a risk of tree limb damage and isolated power outages.
Concurrently, an Extreme Heat Warning is in effect from 10 AM PDT this morning, October 2, until 8 PM PDT Thursday, October 8. Dangerously hot conditions are anticipated, with high temperatures in the upper 90s to 105 degrees Fahrenheit. Nights will offer little relief, with low temperatures remaining in the lower to mid-70s. This prolonged heat significantly increases the risk of heat-related illnesses.
To stay safe, the NWS advises residents to drink plenty of fluids, stay in air-conditioned rooms, and avoid direct sun exposure. Check on relatives and neighbors, especially those vulnerable to heat. Crucially, never leave young children or pets in unattended vehicles, as car interiors can reach lethal temperatures rapidly. Use extra caution when driving due to the gusty winds.
