Residents in San Diego County Coastal Areas, San Bernardino and Riverside County Valleys-The Inland Empire, San Diego County Inland Valleys, Santa Ana Mountains and Foothills, Orange County Coastal, and Orange County Inland are advised to prepare for dangerously hot conditions. The National Weather Service (NWS) San Diego has issued an Extreme Heat Watch, effective from Friday morning, October 2nd, through Wednesday evening, October 7th.

High temperatures on the hottest days are anticipated to range from around 90 degrees Fahrenheit near the coast to the upper 90s to around 105 degrees Fahrenheit for the valleys. Overnight low temperatures for coastal areas and the western valleys will remain elevated, reaching the lower to mid 70s during the weekend and continuing into next week. This extended period of heat significantly increases the risk of heat-related illnesses.

To mitigate risks, the NWS advises drinking plenty of fluids, staying in air-conditioned rooms, and avoiding direct sun exposure. Residents should also check on relatives and neighbors. It is critical to never leave young children or pets unattended in vehicles, as interior temperatures can rapidly become lethal.
