Tropical Storm Watch Issued for San Diego Coastal Areas

A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for San Diego County Coastal Areas, effective October 10 at 2:26 AM PDT, by the National Weather Service San Diego CA. This watch includes Oceanside, Carlsbad, Chula Vista, and San Diego.

Residents in these areas should immediately plan for hazardous wind conditions, with potential for wind speeds between 39 to 57 mph. Efforts to protect property should be underway now, and all preparations must be completed before winds become hazardous. Expected impacts include damage to lightweight structures, broken tree limbs, and scattered power outages. Hazardous driving conditions are anticipated on bridges and elevated roadways.

A Flood Watch is also in effect, with around 1 inch of peak rainfall anticipated. Emergency plans should include the potential for major flooding. Evacuations and rescues are likely, and residents in flood-vulnerable areas should strongly consider protective actions. Rivers and tributaries may rapidly overflow, and floodwaters could enter many structures.

While significant storm surge is unlikely, significant coastal flooding and beach erosion are expected due to tides over 7 feet, high surf, and increased onshore winds. Do not plan to go to the beach. Take necessary actions to protect flood-prone property and monitor forecasts. Dangerous swimming conditions due to high surf and strong rip currents are possible. The watch is set to expire on October 10, 2026, at 2:15 PM UTC.
