BORREGO SPRINGS – Residents of Borrego Springs are urged to act immediately to prepare for severe weather as the National Weather Service (NWS) San Diego has issued a Tropical Storm Watch, effective tonight, October 9, at 8:23 PM PDT. This watch signifies that tropical storm conditions are possible within the specified area.

Forecasters anticipate peak winds of 25-35 mph, with gusts potentially reaching 55 mph. This level of wind can cause limited damage, including downed tree limbs, damage to unanchored structures, and scattered power outages. Efforts to protect property should be underway now, and preparations must be completed before winds become hazardous.

A Flood Watch is also in effect for Borrego Springs, with potential for around 1 inch of rain. The NWS warns of major flooding, which may necessitate evacuations and rescues. Rivers and small streams could overflow, and floodwaters may impact structures and roadways, making driving dangerous. Heed all flood watches and warnings, as failure to take action could result in serious injury or loss of life. Tornadoes are not expected.
