Cross-Connection Control Program
cross connection control Program | Panama City, FL - Official Website Skip to Main Content Create a Website Account - Manage notification subscriptions, save form progress and more. Website Sign In Search Home Departments Public Works Environmental Compliance Division Cross-Connection Control Program cross connection control Program What is Cross Connection Control? A "cross connection" is a connection in a plumbing installation through which water and possible contaminants may enter or come into contact with a drinkable water supply. This can be prevented with backflow protection. Municipalities and other communities set up cross connection control programs that monitor the installation, maintenance and field testing of backflow preventers in accordance with local bylaws and other codes and standards. The City of Panama City is required to implement a Cross Connection Control Program per FDEP Rule 62-555-360-1. View the Cross Connection Control Program Plan in this link. Program Quick Links Submit Extension Request (Form 2027 Online) Register as a Local Tester, Submit Tester Credentials, & Test Kit Calibrations C3 Program Mailing List Sign Up Potable Water Std Detail Link Directory of Local Testers and Installers Cross Connection Control(C3) Program Plan Why is a Backflow Prevention Device Important? Backflow is the reversal of flow of any substance into the safe drinking water distribution system. Backflow Prevention devices protect the City’s potable (safe for drinking) water supply line from contaminants that may get passed back over the meter from the customer's side. Backpressure (pushing) or backsiphonage (sucking forces) can cause fertilizers, microorganisms, chemicals, strongyloides, and other substances that are hazardous to human health to backflow into the safe drinking water distribution system and make people sick. Per FDEP Rule 62-555-360-1, the City is required to have a Cross-connection Control Program in place to keep the drinking water safe. Who Is Required to Have a Backflow Device? Backflow Prevention devices are required for most commercial business and every residential and commercial irrigation account. Depending on your hazard level, properties will be required to use a Reduced Pressure (RP) or a Pressure Vacuum Breaker (PVB). Permit a backflow preventer installation in three easy steps: 1. Choose which device you will need to install. Property owners who have questions regarding which device is best for their property can review their State hazard level and view the Cross-Connection Control Program for more information or contact a licensed plumber. Things to Consider: Pressure Vacuum Breaker (PVB)A PVB device may be a good choice if your lawn is not on a slope and you do not have any sprinkler risers or sill cocks that rise above grade. This device is height dependent and must be installed 12” above your highest downstream piping. Reduced Pressure (RP)An RP device provides the highest level of protection, only needs to be installed 12” above grade, and will work with any irrigation set up. 2. Purchase the backflow prevention assembly that best fits the needs of your property and connection type 3. Pull a permit by visiting City Hall in Room 217 or by going online to us.cloudpermit.com. The cost of the permit is $44.00. Please note: The city does not issue same day permits. All permit applications will need to be reviewed by multiple departments for approval. Please plan accordingly. Spay / Neuter
Spay / Neuter Spay and neuter programs are the only proven method for controlling the pet overpopulation crisis and we are committed to reaching those who need our assistance. If you need help having your pet spayed or neutered, please contact your local veterinarian or the one of the contact below. Did you know? Spaying and neutering are safe, simple surgeries that prevent animals from breeding. Females are spayed, males are neutered. One unneutered male can impregnate dozens of females. Therefore, it is just as important to neuter males as it is to spay females. One unspayed cat and her offspring can produce 420,000 cats in seven years. Spaying/neutering succeeds in reducing the number of animals killed in shelters by preventing the births of unwanted litters. Spaying/neutering also eliminates or reduces the risk of serious health and behavioral problems that are difficult and/or expensive to treat - conditions that often cause people to give up their pets to shelters. Spaying and neutering reduces or eliminates the risk of certain types of cancers. Spaying and neutering often eliminates undesirable behaviors such as fighting, spraying and roaming. Neutering may reduce inter-dog aggression, making walks and dog parks much more fun. If your animal companions are already altered (or if you don’t have any) you can still help reduce the pet overpopulation problem by donating to our Pet Population Control fund. Animals do not become less protective of their guardians as a result of being spayed or neutered.
Lost Pets
If you believe one of the animals in our care belongs to you, please contact the shelter at 904-530-6150 to begin the reclaim process. Proof of ownership is required. Stray animals not reclaimed within five business days may become eligible for adoption. We’re located at 86078 License Road, Fernandina Beach, FL, next to the DMV. Learn more about the Return to Owner Process.

We Honor Veterans
America’s Veterans have done everything asked of them in their mission to serve our country and we believe it is never too late to give them a hero’s welcome home. Now it is time that we step up, acquire the necessary skills and fulfill our mission to serve these men and women with the dignity they deserve. 1 in every 4 dying Americans is a Veteran. Each Veteran has a unique life story and a unique set of needs. We Honor Veterans focus on recognizing these unique needs through respectful inquiry, compassionate listening, and grateful acknowledgment. Training through the We Honor Veterans Program is teaching our staff to learn how to accompany and guide America’s Veterans and their families through their life stories toward a more peaceful ending. In addition to recognizing our Veteran clients, Good Shepherd Homecare & Hospice now offers Vet-to-Vet Volunteers which allows for trained Veteran Volunteers to recognize and spend time with our Veteran clients. Part of this recognition includes Veteran Pinning Ceremonies for our Veteran hospice clients. At these ceremonies, Veteran Volunteers recognize and thank our Veteran clients for their service to their country. These touching ceremonies are just one small way that Good Shepherd Homecare & Hospice is committed to saying “thank you” to our Veterans. If you are interested in learning more about We Honor Veterans, or becoming a Vet-to-Vet Volunteer please contact Amy Bowers, Chaplain & Volunteer Coordinator at 785-537-0688. We also have a number of unique volunteer services that we can offer our clients and families, each of these services are offered thanks to the specific talents and expertise our volunteers bring to the Good Shepherd Homecare & Hospice team. Some of those additional services include massage therapy, music therapy and the creation of one of a kind memory bears. Interested in Volunteering? We are always accepting new volunteers at Homecare & Hospice, so you can contact us to sign up or for more information at any time. Just call the Homecare & Hospice office at 785-537-0688 and ask for Kelly Pittman, Chaplain & Volunteer Coordinator to get started.
The Flock of The Good Shepherd
The Flock of The Good Shepherd The Flock of The Good Shepherd was established in 2010 with the purpose of providing funding for needs that can enhance the environment of The Good Shepherd Hospice House and the time that our clients and families spend there. Over the last ten years, our membership funds have enabled the “Flock” to beautify the gardens and exterior, as well as the interior of our lovely Good Shepherd Hospice House. Some of these items have included planters and flowers for the patio and gardens, holiday decorations, kitchenware, smart TVs, replacement linens for patient beds, staff appreciation goodies, a storage shed and a snow blower. The Flock even provides home cooked meals for families, if requested. Donate Now The work and support of The Flock truly enriches the time spent at the Hospice House. With the help of our members, we are proud to have provided so much to this special home, and we want to continue our work. Each February, we celebrate the anniversary of opening our doors to the Hospice House, and encourage new members to join The Flock or renew their membership at this time. Annual individual memberships are $50. Groups can also become members for $100. Membership donations can be made online by clicking below. If you have any questions about the Flock, feel free to e-mail Lacey McKinney ([email protected])
