St. Martin Parish Evacuation Order: Tropical Storm Francine

Staff Writer
June 11, 2026

St. Martin Parish officials issued a voluntary evacuation order Thursday for Lower St. Martin as Tropical Storm Francine shifts eastward toward the Louisiana coast.

Parish President Pete Delcambre said the storm will make landfall Friday mid-morning to early afternoon. Francine is currently stationary over the Texas coast but forecasters expect rapid intensification as it moves.

The eastward track shift puts Lower St. Martin directly in the storm's path, increasing risk of storm surge and wind damage in the low-lying area. Delcambre urged residents to complete preparations immediately, including securing outdoor items and stocking emergency supplies.

The voluntary evacuation applies to Lower St. Martin, where elevation and proximity to waterways create higher flood risk. Residents should relocate to higher ground or stay with family outside the flood zone.

Parish officials will keep sandbag distribution sites open until 7 p.m. Thursday. Residents should complete outdoor preparations before nightfall and avoid travel once tropical storm-force winds arrive.

For assistance or emergency information, contact the St. Martin Parish Office of Emergency Preparedness at 337-394-2808.
