Residents in Sweetwater, Natrona, and Fremont Counties are advised to exercise extreme caution today, October 5th, due to a Red Flag Warning issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Riverton, Wyoming. The warning is in effect from 5:28 AM MDT until 6:00 PM MDT.
The NWS warns that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now or will shortly, specifically impacting the Sweetwater County/Rock Springs BLM/Flaming Gorge NRA; Natrona County/Casper BLM; Granite/Green/Ferris/Rattlesnake Mountains; and Casper Mountain areas.
Impacts include low humidities, unseasonably warm temperatures, and strong gusty winds, which could lead to erratic fire behavior. Winds are expected from the west at 10 to 15 mph, with gusts up to 30 mph. Humidity levels could drop as low as 10 percent, and temperatures are predicted to reach the upper 70s.
A Red Flag Warning signifies that a combination of strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior. The NWS urges the community to be vigilant and take all necessary precautions to prevent wildfires.
