Residents in the Teton and Gros Ventre Mountains, Jackson Hole, Star Valley, and Salt River and Wyoming Ranges should seek shelter indoors immediately due to a strong thunderstorm moving through the area. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Riverton, WY, issued a Special Weather Statement today, October 10, 2026, at 6:26 PM MDT, warning of wind gusts up to 55 mph and penny-sized hail.

Doppler radar indicates this storm, currently near Palisades Reservoir, is moving east at 40 mph. It is expected to impact Alpine around 6:30 PM MDT. The NWS warns that gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects, and minor hail damage to vegetation is possible.

Additionally, frequent cloud-to-ground lightning is occurring with this storm. Lightning can strike up to 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. If outdoors, the NWS advises seeking safe shelter inside a building or vehicle. This statement is effective immediately and expires at 7:00 PM MDT today.
