PERRY COUNTY, MS – A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Perry County, including Beaumont, New Augusta, and Richton, effective immediately. The National Weather Service in Mobile, AL issued the warning at 3:55 PM CDT on October 9, 2026, and it remains in effect until October 10, 2026, at 12:00 AM UTC.
Residents should act now to complete preparations before hazardous winds begin. Peak wind gusts of 10-20 mph with potential for gusts up to 45 mph are forecast. Expect limited damage to porches, awnings, and unanchored mobile homes. Large tree limbs may break, and scattered power and communications outages are possible.
Localized flooding from heavy rainfall is also a possibility. Heed any flood watches and warnings. Rivers and tributaries may rise, and small streams could overflow. Some structures may experience floodwaters, especially in vulnerable areas. Tornadoes are not expected at this time.
