Hurricane Warning Upgraded for South Alabama Counties as Isaias Nears
Hurricane Isaias, a Category 2 storm, is nearing landfall in the western Florida Panhandle, prompting a Hurricane Warning for Butler, Crenshaw, and Monroe counties, with dangerous winds, storm surge, and heavy rainfall expected.
Residents in Butler, Crenshaw, and Monroe counties are now under a Hurricane Warning as Hurricane Isaias intensifies and approaches the western Florida Panhandle. The National Weather Service in Mobile, AL, issued a Tropical Cyclone Local Statement tonight, October 9, at 7:14 PM CDT, advising of the urgent threat.
Hurricane Isaias is a Category 2 storm with 110 mph winds, located approximately 100 miles east-southeast of Mobile, AL, and 50 miles southeast of Pensacola, FL, moving north at 18 mph. Landfall is expected within the next hour or two.
Life-threatening storm surge of 6 to 9 feet is possible along coastal areas of the western Florida Panhandle and Alabama. Damaging hurricane-force winds (74-110 mph or stronger) are expected across coastal Alabama and the western Florida Panhandle, causing downed trees, power outages, and potential roof damage. Inland areas will experience tropical storm force winds with possible hurricane force gusts. Widespread power and communications outages are likely. Rainfall totals of 4 to 8 inches, with isolated amounts up to 12 inches, could lead to significant flooding.
