PERRY COUNTY, MS – October 9, 2026 – A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for Perry County, including the communities of Beaumont, New Augusta, and Richton, by the National Weather Service (NWS) Mobile AL. This alert is effective immediately as of 4:07 AM CDT today, October 9, 2026, and will remain in effect until 12:15 PM CDT today.
Residents should prepare for hazardous wind and moderate flooding rain. Efforts to protect property should be underway now, and all preparations must be completed before the wind becomes hazardous. The NWS forecasts peak winds of 15-25 mph with gusts up to 45 mph, with a potential for wind speeds of 39 to 57 mph. Potential impacts include damage to sheds, awnings, and unanchored mobile homes, along with broken tree limbs and scattered power outages. Hazardous driving conditions are expected, especially on elevated roadways.
Moderate flooding rain is also a significant threat. Emergency plans should include the potential for moderate flooding, which may prompt evacuations and rescues. Rivers and tributaries may overflow, and floodwaters could enter some structures. Heed any flood watches and warnings issued. Failure to take action may result in serious injury or loss of life.
