RANDOLPH COUNTY, AL – The National Weather Service (NWS) in Birmingham has issued a Tropical Storm Warning for Randolph County, including Roanoke, effective immediately as of October 9 at 10:17 AM CDT. Tropical storm-force winds are expected within the next 36 hours.

Residents should prepare for peak winds of 15-25 mph with gusts up to 50 mph. While sustained winds are expected to remain below tropical storm force, conditions will be gusty. The NWS advises ensuring emergency readiness should forecasts change and to listen for instructions from local officials.

A Flood Watch is also in effect. Randolph County could see 1-3 inches of rain, with locally higher amounts, leading to moderate flooding. Evacuations and rescues are possible. Heed all flood watches and warnings; failure to act could result in serious injury or loss of life. Rivers and tributaries may swell, and road closures due to flooding are possible.

The situation also presents a potential for a few tornadoes. Keep informed for additional alerts. If a tornado warning is issued, shelter quickly.

This Tropical Storm Warning expires October 9, 2026, at 6:30 PM UTC. For more information, visit ready.gov/hurricanes.
