CLARKE COUNTY — The National Weather Service (NWS) in Jackson, MS, has issued a Tropical Storm Warning for Clarke County, effective immediately as of October 9 at 1:00 PM CDT. This warning indicates that tropical storm-force winds are expected within the area over the next 36 hours. The warning is set to expire on October 9, 2026, at 9:00 PM UTC.

Residents should prepare for hazardous winds of 15-25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph. Efforts to protect property, including securing lightweight objects and unanchored structures, should be underway. Limited damage to porches, sheds, and mobile homes is possible, along with broken tree limbs and scattered power outages. Complete preparations now before winds become hazardous.

A Flood Watch is also in effect, with an additional 1 inch of rain expected. This poses a significant threat for moderate flooding. Emergency plans should include the potential for moderate flooding, as evacuations and rescues are possible. Rivers and tributaries may overspill their banks, and floodwaters could enter some structures. Heed all flood watches and warnings immediately. Driving conditions may become hazardous with potential road closures.

The NWS currently reports that the situation is unfavorable for tornadoes, and none are expected. However, showers and thunderstorms with gusty winds may still occur. Stay informed for any changes in the forecast.
