Tropical Storm Warning for Clarke County: Prepare for Hazardous Winds, Flooding
A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Clarke County by the NWS Jackson MS, effective immediately, urging residents to prepare for hazardous winds up to 45 mph and potential moderate flooding through early Saturday morning.
CLARKE COUNTY, MS – October 9, 2026 – The National Weather Service (NWS) in Jackson has issued a Tropical Storm Warning for Clarke County, effective immediately at 10:31 PM CDT. Residents should act now to complete preparations for hazardous winds and potential moderate flooding. The warning is set to expire on October 10, 2026, at 6:45 AM UTC.
The NWS forecasts peak winds of 10-20 mph with gusts up to 45 mph. Potential impacts include damage to porches, awnings, carports, sheds, and unanchored mobile homes. Unsecured lightweight objects may be blown about. Large tree limbs are expected to break, and some trees may snap or uproot, particularly in areas with shallow-rooted trees. Expect scattered power and communications outages, and some roads may become impassable due to debris.
An additional around 1 inch of rainfall is expected, posing a significant threat for moderate flooding. Rivers and tributaries may swell, and small streams, creeks, canals, and ditches could overflow. Floodwaters may enter some structures, and several areas may experience rapid inundation in underpasses, low-lying spots, and poor drainage areas. Driving conditions will become hazardous, and some road and bridge closures are possible. Residents in flood-vulnerable areas should consider protective actions.
Tornadoes are not expected at this time, though gusty winds and showers may still occur. Stay informed of the latest weather updates from the National Weather Service.
