QUITMAN, GA – October 9, 2026 – The National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee has issued a Tropical Storm Warning for Quitman County, specifically impacting Georgetown, effective immediately until October 10, 2026, at 3:00 AM EDT. Residents are urged to take immediate action to ensure safety.
Plan for hazardous winds of 39 to 57 mph with gusts up to 40 mph. All remaining efforts to protect property should be completed as soon as possible. Move to safe shelter before winds become hazardous. Damage to porches, awnings, carports, sheds, and unanchored mobile homes is possible. Expect scattered power and communications outages, and impassable roads due to debris.
A Flood Watch is in effect, with an additional 1-3 inches of rain expected, potentially causing moderate flooding. Residents in flood-prone areas should consider protective actions. Moderate rainfall flooding may prompt evacuations and rescues. Heed all flood watches and warnings.
A few tornadoes are possible. If a tornado warning is issued, be ready to shelter quickly. Tornadoes can cause significant damage and hinder emergency response.
