QUITMAN, GA – The National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee FL has issued a Tropical Storm Warning for Quitman County, specifically impacting Georgetown, effective immediately, October 10 at 2:07 AM EDT. This warning remains in effect until 10:15 AM EDT today.
Residents are advised to move to safe shelter before hazardous winds arrive. Remaining efforts to protect property should be completed as soon as possible. Peak winds are forecast between 15-25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph, with a potential for sustained winds of 39 to 57 mph. Limited damage to unanchored mobile homes, sheds, and large tree limbs is possible, potentially causing scattered power and communication outages.
A Flood Watch is also in effect, with an additional 1 inch of rainfall expected. Moderate flooding rain is possible, potentially leading to evacuations and rescues. Rivers and tributaries may become swollen, and some roads may become impassable due to flooding. Heed any flood watches and warnings immediately. Failure to take action may result in serious injury or loss of life.
The NWS also indicates a favorable situation for a few tornadoes. Residents whose shelters are vulnerable to tornadoes should prepare to relocate to a safer location before hazardous weather. If a tornado warning is issued, be ready to shelter quickly.
