Tropical Storm Warning for Autauga: Prepare for High Winds, Flooding, Tornadoes
A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Autauga County, including Prattville, from Friday evening to Saturday morning, with NWS forecasting hazardous winds up to 60 mph, moderate flooding, and potential tornadoes; residents should prepare immediately and move to safe shelter.
AUTAUGA COUNTY — The National Weather Service (NWS) in Birmingham, AL, has issued a Tropical Storm Warning for Autauga County, effective immediately as of October 8 at 10:27 PM CDT. Residents, particularly in Prattville, should finalize preparations for hazardous weather conditions expected from Friday evening until Saturday morning.
Expect sustained winds of 30-40 mph with gusts up to 60 mph. These winds can cause limited damage, including unsecured objects being blown about, large tree limbs breaking, and potential scattered power outages. Property protection efforts should be completed as soon as possible. Move to safe shelter before winds become hazardous.
A Flood Watch is in effect, with 1-3 inches of rain expected, and locally higher amounts possible. This could lead to moderate flooding, prompting evacuations and rescues in vulnerable areas. Heed all flood watches and warnings; failure to act could result in serious injury or loss of life. Rivers and tributaries may swell, and roads may become impassable due to inundation.
The NWS also indicates a potential for a few tornadoes. If a tornado warning is issued, be prepared to shelter quickly. Limited tornado damage is possible, including roof damage, toppled chimneys, and downed trees.
