PRATTVILLE, AL – October 9, 2026 – Residents of Prattville are urged to take immediate action as a Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Autauga County by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Birmingham, AL, effective 4:08 AM CDT today. This warning indicates severe conditions are expected, with tropical storm force winds forecast to begin early Saturday morning and continue until Saturday afternoon.

Peak wind speeds are anticipated to reach 45-55 mph, with gusts up to 70 mph. The NWS advises all remaining efforts to protect property should be completed as soon as possible. Move to safe shelter before hazardous winds begin. Potential impacts include damage to lightweight structures, broken tree limbs, some downed trees, and scattered power outages. Hazardous driving conditions are expected on bridges and elevated roadways, with some roads becoming impassable due to debris.

A Flood Watch is also in effect for the area, with 2-4 inches of rain expected, and locally higher amounts possible. This could lead to moderate flooding, potentially prompting evacuations and rescues. Rivers and tributaries may become swollen, and flood waters could enter structures. Residents in flood-vulnerable areas should consider protective actions. Heed any flood watches and warnings; failure to act may result in serious injury or loss of life.

The NWS currently reports that tornadoes are not expected, and the tornado threat has decreased. For more information and preparedness resources, visit ready.gov/hurricanes.
