AUTAUGA COUNTY – The National Weather Service (NWS) in Birmingham, AL, has issued a Tropical Storm Warning for Autauga County, specifically impacting Prattville, effective immediately. This warning was issued on October 9 at 1:19 AM CDT and is set to expire at 9:30 AM CDT today, October 9, 2026.
Residents in affected areas must move to safe shelter before hazardous winds begin this evening and continue until Saturday morning. Peak winds are forecast at 30-40 mph with gusts up to 60 mph. Prepare for potential damage to porches, sheds, and unanchored mobile homes. Expect downed tree limbs, possible road obstructions from debris, and scattered power outages.
A Flood Watch is also in effect. Emergency plans should include the potential for moderate flooding from 1-3 inches of rain, with locally higher amounts. Rivers and tributaries may overflow, and some structures could experience flooding. Heed all flood watches and warnings; failure to act may result in serious injury or loss of life.
The NWS also indicates a potential for a few tornadoes. If your shelter is vulnerable, relocate to a safer location before hazardous weather arrives. Be ready to shelter quickly if a tornado warning is issued. For more information, visit ready.gov/hurricanes.
