Tropical Storm Watch Issued for Autauga County, Including Prattville
A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for Autauga County, including Prattville, with tropical storm-force winds, moderate flooding, and potential tornadoes possible within the next 48 hours, urging immediate preparedness.
AUTAUGA COUNTY – The National Weather Service (NWS) in Birmingham, AL, has issued a Tropical Storm Watch for Autauga County, including Prattville, effective today, October 8, at 10:05 AM CDT. This watch indicates that tropical storm-force winds are possible within the next 48 hours.
Residents in affected areas should complete all efforts to protect property as soon as possible and prepare for potential limited wind damage. Move to safe shelter before hazardous winds begin.
The NWS forecasts peak winds of 35-45 mph with gusts up to 65 mph, expected from Friday evening until Saturday morning. Potential impacts include damage to porches, awnings, sheds, and unanchored mobile homes, along with broken tree limbs and some power and communications outages.
A potential for moderate flooding rain is also anticipated, with 2-4 inches of rainfall and locally higher amounts. Emergency plans should include the possibility of moderate flooding, and residents in vulnerable areas should consider protective actions. Rivers and tributaries may swell, and localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible, making driving hazardous.
The situation is also somewhat favorable for a few tornadoes. Residents should include the potential for tornadoes in their emergency plans. If a tornado warning is issued, be ready to shelter quickly.
