Jefferson County Vision Zero: Targeting Dangerous Roads

Staff Writer
May 15, 2026
Jefferson County Uses Crash Data to Target Roadway Dangers

Jefferson County is using crash data and community feedback to identify and fix dangerous intersections and road segments through its Vision Zero program, which aims to eliminate serious traffic crashes.

County analysts examine crash patterns on roads from Lakewood to Golden, then prioritize safety improvements based on where injuries and deaths occur most often. Traffic count data helps staff identify high-risk routes, including those leading to destinations like Red Rocks Amphitheatre.

Residents can access traffic counts and safety information through ArcGIS Hub, the Jefferson County Interactive Mapping Application (jMap), and the DRCOG Regional Traffic Count Program website.

A 2021 Roadway Safety Study gave the county's Transportation and Engineering Division detailed information about crash trends. The county also maintains a roadside memorial program for victims of traffic crashes on county roads.

Those involved in crashes on county-maintained roads can obtain reports through the Colorado State Patrol Crash Information website.
