Porter County Beaches Face Dangerous Waves; Stay Out of Water

PORTER COUNTY, IN – The National Weather Service (NWS) Chicago has issued a Beach Hazards Statement for Porter County, effective immediately and continuing through Monday morning, September 21, until 7:00 AM CDT. This statement warns of dangerous swimming conditions on Lake Michigan beaches.

Residents and visitors are advised to remain out of the water to avoid life-threatening swimming conditions. The NWS anticipates high wave action, with waves expected to reach 4 to 6 feet, and dangerous currents. These conditions pose a significant risk, especially for inexperienced swimmers.

Additionally, the NWS urges the public not to venture out onto piers, jetties, breakwalls, or other shoreline structures during this period. These areas can become extremely hazardous due to high waves and strong currents.
