A Beach Hazards Statement has been issued for Lake, Northern Cook, and Central Cook Counties, warning of dangerous swimming conditions on Lake Michigan.

The National Weather Service (NWS) in Chicago has issued this statement, effective immediately and continuing through Wednesday evening, September 23, until 7:00 PM CDT. High wave action and dangerous currents are expected, with waves anticipated to reach 6 to 9 feet.

Swimming conditions will be life-threatening, particularly for inexperienced swimmers. The NWS advises all residents and visitors to remain out of the water to avoid these dangerous conditions. Furthermore, individuals should not venture out onto piers, jetties, breakwalls, or other shoreline structures.
