New 4-H Agent Settles into Putnam County Role

Putnam County welcomed its new 4-H Agent, Sarah Jenkins, this week, marking her first official week on the job. Jenkins, who officially started on Monday, April 14, 2026, is eager to immerse herself in the community and build upon the strong foundation of the local 4-H program.

Jenkins spent her initial days meeting with staff at the Putnam County Extension Office, located on State Road 19 in Palatka, and familiarizing herself with ongoing projects and upcoming events. She expressed enthusiasm for the diverse agricultural landscape along the St. Johns River and the vibrant youth programs already in place across the county.

"I'm incredibly excited to be here in Putnam County," Jenkins stated during a brief introduction at the Extension Office. "The commitment to youth development through 4-H is evident, and I'm looking forward to working with our young people, volunteers, and families to continue fostering leadership, life skills, and agricultural knowledge."

Her first week included reviewing current club activities, understanding the needs of local farmers and ranchers who support 4-H initiatives, and beginning to plan for summer programs. Residents can expect to see Jenkins at various community events and school functions in the coming weeks, including those in historic downtown Palatka, as she makes connections and learns more about the specific interests of Putnam County's youth.

The 4-H program in Putnam County offers a wide range of activities, from livestock projects and environmental education to public speaking and community service. Jenkins' appointment is expected to bring fresh perspectives and renewed energy to these vital programs, ensuring that local youth continue to have access to valuable learning and growth opportunities.

Community members interested in learning more about Putnam County 4-H, volunteering, or enrolling their children in programs are encouraged to contact the Putnam County Extension Office directly.
