How Does Your Garden Grow

Nassau County residents are invited to cultivate their green thumbs and enhance their home gardens with valuable insights from local experts. The Nassau County Extension Office is hosting a series of free workshops throughout the spring, focusing on sustainable gardening practices tailored for our local climate.

The next session, titled "Nassau's Native Flora: Beauty and Benefits," is scheduled for Saturday, April 27, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Extension Office located at 54335 Western Way in Callahan. This workshop will cover selecting and caring for plants that thrive naturally in our region, such as in the coastal dunes and maritime forests, requiring less water and maintenance while supporting local wildlife.

Future topics will include composting techniques, pest management without harsh chemicals, and maximizing vegetable yields in small spaces. These events are designed to be interactive, with opportunities for attendees to ask questions and share their own gardening experiences.

Space is limited, and pre-registration is encouraged to ensure a spot. Residents can sign up by calling the Nassau County Extension Office at (904) 530-6350 or visiting their office during business hours. These workshops are a fantastic resource for both seasoned gardeners and those just starting to explore the joys of growing their own.
