It entails the division of the City into districts, or zones, that regulate the use of land and buildings, the density or intensity of such uses, and the bulk and location of buildings. Zoning is intended to promote public health, safety, and general welfare; manage population density; and ensure compatible development.

The Planning & Zoning Department guides the growth and development of the City of Cocoa. We work to ensure that all development adheres to the City’s Comprehensive Plan and Land Development Regulations. Our goal is to promote a high quality of life for Cocoa residents and businesses.

These policies direct how the community will develop over the next 10 to 20 years.

Risk Reduction

Responsibilities The Risk Reduction Division coordinates efforts to inform the public of fire preventive methods with a focus on education, awareness, public relations, fire inspections, and fire investigations to prevent fires before they occur. The department works with insurance companies to assist in identifying the estimated dollar loss incurred at all fires. The department also investigates causes to assist in determining trends and the means to prevent future fires.

Al Causey, Commissioner, District 3

Al Causey, Commissioner, District 3 Phone: 727-336-2860 Term: March 2026 to March 2028 Email Al Causey Election The registered voters of the district elect the Commissioner of District 3. Professional Background Mr. Causey earned a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering at GA Tech and learned the value of teamwork in solving engineering problems. He worked as an engineer at Gulfstream Aerospace, and became a Naval Aviator based on the USS Coral Sea serving in various parts of the world. After the military, he served as a Southwest Airlines captain for over twenty years in Houston, Dallas, Oakland, Chicago, Baltimore, and Orlando. In 2010 Mr. Causey received the Southwest Airlines Volunteer of the Year Award. He has a long history of volunteer service including the Big Brother program and by founding the Maryland Science Olympiad and STEM Playground educational programs focused upon collaborative learning and teamwork. Most recently, Mr. Causey served on the City of St. Pete Beach Board of Adjustment. Now retired from aviation, he writes daily and has been published in both literary journals and the Navy Times.

After-School Program

Fall 2026 August 10 – December 19 Click HERE Version OptionsAfter School ProgramHeadline for a current flyer. 1:55 pm - 6 pm (early release days at 12:55 pm) The after-school program is a supervised “playground program" that provides children with a safe and enjoyable place to be during the after-school hours. Early Registration: June 15: $560 /semester Regular Registration: August 3; $585/ semester Monthly Rates*: August = $120 September = $155 October = $155 November = $115 December = $105 *An additional fee of $15 will be added to any payment received after the 1st of the month. Students will not be picked up from school unless waivers are completed and all fees are submitted. The After-School Program is closed on school holidays, teacher workdays, conference days, and any other day on which there is no school in accordance with Hillsborough County Schools. The program does, however, operate on school early-release days. Participants must have a current annual membership throughout the program. The After School Program is not a licensed day care and operates in compliance with Rule 65C-22.008(3) of the Florida Administrative Code. Please note that our facility remains open to members, their guests, program participants, and their guardians. Family Complex members and guests will share usage of the facility, including restrooms and locker rooms, with children enrolled in the After-School Program. For more information, call 813.506.6600. There will be a $25 late fee for any child picked up after 6:01pm. There will be a $50 late fee for any child picked up after 6:15 pm. This is strictly enforced. Participants must have a current annual membership throughout the program. A new waiver must be completed for every new session. After-School Transportation Cost: $140/child a semester Van transportation is available on a limited basis for students enrolled in the after-school program. This program provides pickup at schools and transportation to the Family Recreation Complex for children enrolled in the After-School Program. Schools include Riverhills Elementary School and Temple Terrace Elementary School. All dates and prices are subject to change.

Gymnastics

Temple Terrace Gymnastics is a year-round gymnastics program that offers gymnastics and specialty classes for girls and boys ages 18 months to 17 years. We offer several sessions yearly, including camps, one-day programs, birthday parties, and a competitive gymnastics team. Our mission is to facilitate the development of good sportsmanship, confidence, and self-esteem by providing an enjoyable gymnastics experience at both recreational and competitive levels. October Session 2026 October 5 - October 31 | 4 WEEKS CLASSES Please see the FLYER for a list of current classes. Registration Registration opens Monday, September 28. Registration is first-come, first-served. Classes may fill early, so plan accordingly. Registration will close after Week 1 of each month. Class schedules are subject to change. Please check with the front desk for the latest availability by calling 813-506-6600. Tuition Class LengthMembers*Non-Members 4 Weeks: 45-50 minutes$54$74 4 Weeks: 85 minutes$84$116 Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis. Classes may fill early, so plan accordingly. Refunds will be granted at the discretion of the Recreation Division. They will be granted only for emergencies or medical reasons, or if the request is made before the first class of the session. Tardiness For their safety, children must participate in warm-ups and MAY NOT attend class if more than 10 minutes late. Adult Open Gym Fridays at 7 PM, members $8/non-members $10 Make-Up Classes No make-up classes are available. Class Information Attire: All students must be dressed appropriately to participate! Girls: Leotard or one-piece swimsuit Boys: Tank top or T-shirt, elastic band shorts (no clothing with buttons or zippers allowed) All: No jewelry, hair pulled away from the face, and barefoot (no socks or stockings). Participants must bring their own water bottle. Drop-off Parent/guardian must accompany the participant into the facility. Participants must check in with an instructor before class. Drop off no more than 5 minutes before class. Pick-up Dismissal will take place at the Gymnastics front doors. Parent/guardian must pick up from the lobby. Pick-up no more than 5 minutes after class has been dismissed.
