Julie Baxter Appointed to Venice Library Board

Venice, FL – The Venice City Council officially appointed local resident Julie Baxter to the Venice Public Library Board during its regular meeting yesterday, April 7, 2026. Baxter, a long-time advocate for literacy and community engagement, will serve a three-year term, filling a vacancy left by the recent resignation of a previous board member.

Baxter has been a familiar face in Venice for over two decades, known for her volunteer work with various local organizations, including the Friends of the Venice Public Library. Her commitment to fostering educational opportunities and promoting the library's role as a community hub was highlighted during her brief remarks to the Council.

“I am honored to join the Library Board and contribute to an institution that is so vital to our community,” Baxter stated. “The Venice Public Library offers invaluable resources, from early literacy programs for children to digital access for all ages. I look forward to working with my fellow board members and library staff to ensure it continues to thrive and meet the evolving needs of Venice residents.”

The Venice Public Library, located at 300 Nokomis Ave. S. in the heart of historic downtown Venice, serves as a cornerstone for education and cultural enrichment in the city. The Library Board plays a crucial role in advising on library policies, programs, and strategic planning, working closely with Library Director Sarah Jenkins.

City Council members expressed their confidence in Baxter’s appointment, citing her deep understanding of the library's operations and her passion for public service. Her first official board meeting is scheduled for next month, where she will join discussions on upcoming summer reading initiatives and potential technology upgrades.

Residents interested in learning more about the Venice Public Library's programs or the Library Board's activities can visit the library during operating hours or check the city's official website for meeting schedules and minutes.
