Gale Warning: Hazardous Conditions for Delaware Bay Mariners

Mariners operating in the Delaware Bay waters south of East Point, NJ to Slaughter Beach, DE, are advised to alter plans to avoid hazardous conditions due to a Gale Warning. Strong winds and very rough waters are expected.

The National Weather Service (NWS) in Mount Holly, NJ, issued the Gale Warning today, September 24, at 5:45 AM EDT, effective until 8:00 PM EDT this evening. Northeast winds of 20 to 30 knots with gusts up to 35 knots are anticipated, creating very rough waters.

In addition to the Gale Warning, a Gale Watch has been issued for the same area, beginning Friday morning and continuing through Saturday afternoon. During this time, north winds of 25 to 35 knots with gusts up to 40 knots and rough waters are possible.

These conditions pose a risk of capsizing or damaging vessels and can reduce visibility. Mariners are instructed to remain in port, seek safe harbor, alter course, and/or secure their vessel for these hazardous conditions.
