Gale Warning: Delaware Bay Mariners Advised to Seek Safe Harbor

A Gale Warning has been issued for the Delaware Bay waters north of East Point, NJ, to Slaughter Beach, DE, effective immediately. Mariners in this area are advised by the National Weather Service (NWS) Mount Holly, NJ, to alter plans and seek safe harbor due to expected hazardous conditions.

The warning is in effect from 5:45 AM EDT on Thursday, September 24, 2026, and expires at 7:00 PM EDT on Thursday, September 24, 2026. While the Gale Warning itself is brief, a Small Craft Advisory is in effect until 6:00 AM EDT Friday, September 25, 2026, with northeast winds of 15 to 25 knots and gusts up to 30 knots, along with rough waters. Following this, a Gale Watch will be in effect from Friday morning through Saturday afternoon, with north winds of 15 to 25 knots and gusts up to 35 knots, and rough waters possible.

These strong winds and rough seas can capsize or damage vessels and reduce visibility. The NWS instructs mariners to remain in port, alter course, and/or secure their vessels for severe wind and seas. Do not venture out onto the affected waters during this period.
