Dangerous Waves, Currents Expected on Lake Michigan Beaches

Door, Kewaunee, and Manitowoc county residents and visitors are advised to remain out of Lake Michigan waters due to a Beach Hazards Statement issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Green Bay, WI.

This Moderate Severity alert is in effect from tonight, September 20, at 9:11 PM CDT until Tuesday evening, September 22, at 7:00 PM CDT. Dangerous swimming conditions are expected, including high waves and strong currents. These conditions can pull swimmers into deeper water and sweep individuals off piers.

Beaches most susceptible to these hazards include Rock Island State Beach, Baileys Harbor beaches, and Whitefish Dunes Beach in Door County. In Kewaunee County, Cresent Beach and City of Kewaunee Beach are affected. Point Beach, Neshotah Beach, and Red Arrow Beach in Manitowoc County are also included.

The NWS strongly advises remaining out of the water to avoid these hazardous swimming conditions.
