URGENT: Life-Threatening Storm Surge and Winds for Coastal Gulf

Coastal Gulf residents in Port Saint Joe and Cape San Blas must immediately prepare for life-threatening storm surge, dangerous winds, and potential major flooding starting Friday afternoon, according to a National Weather Service warning.

Coastal Gulf residents, particularly in Port Saint Joe and Cape San Blas, must IMMEDIATELY prepare for life-threatening storm surge and dangerous tropical storm-force winds. The National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee FL has issued a Storm Surge Warning, effective October 7 at 11:00 PM EDT, indicating potential inundation of 4-7 feet above ground, and possibly greater than 6 feet, through Saturday morning. Evacuations should be completed now if orders are given for your area.

Tropical storm-force winds of 30-40 mph with gusts up to 55 mph are expected from Friday afternoon until early Saturday morning. Prepare for significant wind damage, including to roofing, siding, and mobile homes. Secure all loose objects as they may become dangerous projectiles. Power and communications outages are likely.

Additional rainfall of 4-8 inches, with locally higher amounts, could lead to major flooding, prompting evacuations and rescues. Heed all flood watches and warnings. There is also a potential for a few tornadoes. Have a plan for immediate shelter if a tornado warning is issued.
