A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for Wewahitchka by NWS Tallahassee FL, warning of hazardous winds, major flooding rain, and potential tornadoes; residents should complete preparations immediately.

A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for Wewahitchka, effective immediately, by the National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee FL. This alert, issued October 7 at 4:52 PM EDT, indicates potential for severe weather conditions including hazardous winds, major flooding rain, and possible tornadoes.

Residents in Wewahitchka should complete preparations now. Winds of 20-30 mph with gusts up to 35 mph are forecast, with a potential for 39 to 57 mph winds. Expect limited damage to property, downed tree limbs, and scattered power outages. Efforts to protect property should be underway. Driving conditions may become hazardous, especially on bridges and elevated roadways.

The NWS warns of major flooding rain, with an additional 4-8 inches of rainfall, and locally higher amounts. Evacuations and rescues are likely. Heed any flood watches and warnings; failure to act could result in serious injury or loss of life. Consider protective actions, especially if you are in a flood-prone area. Rivers, tributaries, and small streams may overflow, and floodwaters could enter structures.

The situation is also somewhat favorable for tornadoes. Be ready to shelter quickly if a tornado warning is issued. The watch expires October 8, 2026 at 1:00 AM UTC.
