Wewahitchka is under a Tropical Storm Watch issued by NWS Tallahassee, urging immediate preparations for hazardous winds, potential major flooding from heavy rain, and possible tornadoes.

WEWAHITCHKA, FL – The National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee has issued a Tropical Storm Watch for Wewahitchka, effective October 7 at 11:00 PM EDT. Residents should immediately begin preparations for hazardous winds and the potential for extensive major flooding from heavy rainfall.

The NWS forecasts peak winds of 10-20 mph with gusts up to 30 mph, but warns of a potential for sustained winds of 39 to 57 mph. Property protection efforts should be underway now, with preparations for limited wind damage. Act now to complete all preparations before hazardous winds arrive.

Of significant concern is the potential for major flooding rain. An additional 4-8 inches of rain, with locally higher amounts, is forecast. Emergency plans must include the possibility of major flooding, and evacuations and rescues are likely. Residents in flood-vulnerable areas should strongly consider protective actions. Heed any flood watches and warnings immediately; failure to act could result in serious injury or loss of life.

A few tornadoes are also possible. If your shelter is vulnerable, relocate to a safe shelter before hazardous weather. If a tornado warning is issued, shelter quickly.

No storm surge inundation is forecast. This alert expires on October 8, 2026, at 7:00 AM UTC.
