WEWAHITCHKA, FL – October 8, 2026 – The National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee has issued a Tropical Storm Warning for Inland Gulf, specifically impacting Wewahitchka, effective immediately. Tropical storm-force winds are expected within the next 36 hours. Residents are urged to complete all preparations now.

Peak wind forecasts are 10-20 mph with gusts up to 30 mph, with the potential for sustained winds of 39 to 57 mph. Limited damage to property such as porches, awnings, and unanchored mobile homes is possible, along with downed tree limbs and potential power outages. Act now to secure property and complete preparations.

A Flood Watch is in effect, with an additional 3-6 inches of rain expected, potentially leading to major flooding. Emergency plans should include the possibility of evacuations and rescues. Heed all flood watches and warnings; failure to act could result in serious injury or loss of life. Rivers and tributaries may overflow, and many roads could become impassable.

The NWS also reports a favorable situation for several tornadoes, with a few possibly intense. Those in manufactured homes or on boats should relocate to safe shelter. Listen for tornado watches and warnings and be ready to shelter quickly if issued. Significant damage and power loss are possible from tornadoes.

No storm surge inundation is forecast for this area.
