Tropical Storm Warning Issued for Coastal Gulf: Act Immediately
A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Coastal Gulf, including Port Saint Joe and Cape San Blas, with immediate action required due to severe winds, life-threatening storm surge, major flooding, and potential tornadoes.
A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for the Coastal Gulf area, specifically impacting Port Saint Joe and Cape San Blas. The National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee FL issued this warning today, October 9, at 5:17 AM EDT.
Residents in affected areas must complete all remaining preparations to protect life and property immediately. Dangerous winds of 35-45 mph with gusts up to 60 mph are expected to begin early this afternoon and last until early Saturday morning. Move to safe shelter before hazardous winds begin.
A life-threatening storm surge of 4-7 feet above ground is possible through Saturday morning. All ordered evacuations should be complete, and evacuees should be in shelters well away from surge flooding. Remain sheltered in a safe location; if necessary, move to upper floors to escape rising water.
A Flood Watch is in effect, with an additional 3-6 inches of rain expected, potentially leading to major flooding and prompting evacuations and rescues. Heed all flood watches and warnings.
The situation is favorable for several tornadoes, some potentially intense. Listen for tornado watches and warnings and be ready to shelter quickly if one is issued. Those in manufactured homes or on boats should relocate to safe shelter. This warning is effective until October 9, 2026, at 1:30 PM UTC.
