A Storm Surge Watch has been issued for the Coastal Gulf, including Port Saint Joe and Cape San Blas, by the National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee FL, effective today, October 7, at 11:04 AM EDT. Life-threatening inundation from rising water is possible within the next 48 hours, with peak storm surge inundation of 4-7 feet above ground in surge-prone areas.

Evacuation preparations should be underway. Residents are advised to assemble disaster supplies and know their evacuation routes. Leave immediately if evacuation orders are given for your area. Failure to heed evacuation orders may result in loss of life.

Strong tropical storm force winds are also expected, with peak forecasts of 30-40 mph and gusts to 50 mph, with potential for winds up to 73 mph. Efforts to protect life and property should be underway now. Significant damage to roofing, siding, and mobile homes is possible, along with downed trees and power outages. Complete all preparations before winds become hazardous.

Additional rainfall of 4-8 inches is forecast, with potential for moderate flooding. Residents in flood-vulnerable areas should consider protective actions and heed all flood watches and warnings. The NWS advises checking weather.gov/tallahassee for updates.
