Extreme Storm Surge Warning Issued for Coastal Gulf: Evacuate Immediately

An Extreme Storm Surge Warning is in effect for Coastal Gulf, including Port Saint Joe and Cape San Blas, with life-threatening storm surge and tropical storm force winds expected; evacuate immediately if in surge-prone areas.

An Extreme Storm Surge Warning has been issued by NWS Tallahassee FL for the Coastal Gulf area, specifically impacting Port Saint Joe and Cape San Blas. This warning is in effect from October 8 at 11:05 PM EDT through Saturday morning.

Life-threatening storm surge of 4-7 feet above ground is possible, with potential for flooding greater than 6 feet above ground. Evacuation efforts for surge-prone areas should be completed immediately. If evacuation orders are given, leave at once to avoid being cut off from emergency services. Extensive impacts are anticipated, including structural damage, roads washing out, and severe beach erosion.

Tropical Storm force winds (30-40 mph with gusts to 55 mph) are expected from early Friday afternoon until early Saturday morning. Secure property immediately and move to safe shelter before winds become hazardous. Prepare for scattered power outages and impassable roads due to debris.

A Flood Watch is in effect, with additional rainfall of 4-8 inches expected, leading to potential major flooding. Heed all flood watches and warnings. The situation is also favorable for several tornadoes, some possibly intense. Listen for tornado watches and warnings and be ready to shelter quickly if a warning is issued. Those in manufactured homes or on boats should relocate to safe shelter. For more information, visit NWS Tallahassee, Florida Division of Emergency Management, or Gulf County Emergency Management.
