A Storm Surge Warning of Extreme severity has been issued by the NWS Tallahassee FL, effective today, October 9, 2026, at 5:17 AM EDT, for coastal Gulf areas including Port Saint Joe and Cape San Blas. This warning includes potential life-threatening storm surge of 4-7 feet above ground, with a threat for greater than 6 feet, through Saturday morning. All ordered evacuations should be complete. Residents are urged to remain sheltered in a safe location and move to upper floors if water rises.

Strong tropical storm force winds of 35-45 mph with gusts to 60 mph are expected to begin early this afternoon and last until early Saturday morning, with a potential for 58-73 mph winds. Significant damage to property is possible. Complete all remaining protection efforts now and move to safe shelter before hazardous winds begin. Additionally, a Flood Watch is in effect, with 3-6 inches of additional rain expected, potentially causing major flooding. Heed all flood watches and warnings. The situation is also favorable for several tornadoes, some possibly intense. Listen for tornado watches and warnings and be ready to shelter quickly.
