Extreme Storm Surge Warning for Coastal Gulf: Act Now
An Extreme Storm Surge Warning is in effect for Coastal Gulf, including Port Saint Joe and Cape San Blas, urging immediate sheltering due to life-threatening storm surge, tropical storm force winds, major flooding, and potential tornadoes.
Coastal Gulf residents, particularly in Port Saint Joe and Cape San Blas, are under an Extreme Storm Surge Warning issued by NWS Tallahassee FL as of October 9 at 8:28 AM EDT. Life-threatening storm surge of 4-7 feet above ground, with potential for over 6 feet, is possible through Saturday morning. All ordered evacuations should be complete, and evacuees should be in safe shelters. Remain sheltered in a safe location; do not venture outside. If necessary, move to upper floors to escape rising water.
Tropical Storm force winds (35-45 mph, gusts to 60 mph) are expected early this afternoon until early Saturday morning, with potential for 58-73 mph winds. Last-minute efforts to protect life and property should be complete. Now is the time to shelter from dangerous wind.
A Flood Watch is in effect, with an additional 3-6 inches of rain expected, leading to potential major flooding. Emergency plans should include the potential for evacuations and rescues. Heed all flood watches and warnings.
The situation is also favorable for several tornadoes. Stay within your shelter and remain informed. If a tornado warning is issued, move quickly to the safest place within your shelter.
