Tropical Storm Watch Issued: Isaias Intensifying, Prepare for Impacts

A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for multiple counties in Alabama and Florida as Tropical Storm Isaias rapidly intensifies and is expected to become a hurricane by Thursday morning.

The National Weather Service in Tallahassee has issued a Tropical Cyclone Local Statement regarding Tropical Storm Isaias, which is rapidly intensifying and forecast to become a hurricane by Thursday morning, October 8th. A Tropical Storm Watch is now in effect for Coffee, Dale, Henry, Geneva, Houston, Jackson, and Calhoun counties in Alabama, as well as Inland Franklin, Northern Liberty, and Southern Liberty counties in Florida.

As of 5:00 PM EDT on October 7th, Isaias was located approximately 680 miles southwest of Panama City, moving east-northeast at 8 mph with maximum sustained winds of 65 mph. The storm is expected to turn northward and accelerate, potentially impacting the central Gulf coast. Conditions could begin to deteriorate across the Panhandle as early as Friday morning.

Residents in affected areas should finalize emergency plans and secure their homes and businesses. Potential impacts include life-threatening rainfall flooding, dangerous winds, and storm surge along the coast. Prepare for possible power outages and impassable roads due to debris. Stay informed through local news, NOAA Weather Radio, and weather.gov. The next update is expected around 11:00 PM EDT tonight.
