A Storm Surge Watch has been issued for coastal Gulf County, including Port Saint Joe and Cape San Blas, effective immediately. The National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee warns of potential life-threatening storm surge of 4-7 feet above ground, with a window of concern from Friday morning until Saturday morning. Evacuation preparations should be underway in surge-prone areas.
Strong tropical storm force winds of 30-40 mph with gusts up to 50 mph are expected from Friday afternoon until early Saturday morning. Residents should prepare for significant wind damage, including potential roofing and siding damage, downed trees, and scattered power outages. Efforts to protect life and property should be completed now.
Major flooding from 4-8 inches of additional rain is also forecast, with a potential for locally higher amounts, likely prompting evacuations and rescues. The NWS also indicates a potential for a few tornadoes. Residents should heed all flood watches and warnings and be ready to shelter quickly if a tornado warning is issued. This watch expires October 8, 2026, at 1:00 AM UTC. For more information, visit weather.gov/tallahassee or floridadisaster.org.
