Beachgoers in South Walton, Coastal Bay, Coastal Gulf, and Coastal Franklin counties are urged to exercise extreme caution as a Rip Current Statement has been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee FL. Dangerous rip currents are expected through late Sunday night, October 11, 2026.

This advisory is effective immediately, beginning October 7, 2026, at 3:21 AM EDT, and will remain in effect until October 12, 2026, at 4:00 AM EDT. The NWS warns that rip currents can sweep even the best swimmers away from shore into deeper water.

For your safety, the NWS advises swimming near a lifeguard. If you find yourself caught in a rip current, remember to relax and float; do not swim against the current. If you are able, swim in a direction following the shoreline. If you cannot escape the current, face the shore and call or wave for help.
