Pike County residents should secure outdoor objects and decor ahead of Saturday, October 10th, as a period of strong wind gusts is expected. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Jackson, KY, has issued a Special Weather Statement regarding the remnants of Hurricane Isaias.
Southeasterly winds of 10 to 20 mph, with gusts up to 35 mph, are anticipated. The strongest winds are projected for Saturday afternoon, coinciding with the arrival of the initial rain bands. As rainfall becomes steady, winds may decrease in many areas, but gusty conditions are expected to persist into Saturday night at elevations above 1,500 feet. Isolated gusts exceeding 40 mph are possible on the highest ridge tops.
This Special Weather Statement is effective from Friday, October 9th, at 8:52 PM EDT, and expires on Saturday, October 10th, at 9:00 AM EDT. The NWS advises securing any unsecured outdoor items to prevent them from being blown around by the winds.
