Residents across Southeast Alaska are advised to prepare for a period of widespread moderate to heavy rainfall and gale force winds beginning Thursday, October 12, and continuing into the weekend. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Juneau issued a Special Weather Statement at 6:14 PM AKDT today, indicating that a series of low pressure systems will impact the region.

Strong winds are anticipated for coastal and southern panhandle communities. While the exact timing and impacts are still being refined, the NWS states that confidence is increasing for a more impactful weather system across Southeast Alaska. The affected areas include the City and Borough of Yakutat, Municipality of Skagway, Haines Borough and Klukwan, Glacier Bay, Eastern Chichagof Island, Cape Fairweather to Lisianski Strait, City and Borough of Sitka, Admiralty Island, City and Borough of Juneau, Petersburg Borough, Western Kupreanof and Kuiu Island, Prince of Wales Island, City and Borough of Wrangell, Ketchikan Gateway Borough, City of Hyder, and Annette Island.

This Special Weather Statement is effective from October 12, 2026, at 6:14 PM UTC until October 13, 2026, at 2:15 AM UTC. The NWS encourages the public to monitor updates at weather.gov/juneau as the situation develops.
