Pensacola Airport Gets $9M Federal Grant for Security Expansion
Pensacola International Airport will add six security screening lanes with a $9 million federal grant announced by the Federal Aviation Administration. The funding, provided through the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, will expand the Transportation Security Administration checkpoint by 8,400 square feet and include larger passenger queuing areas, new restrooms, and upgraded baggage handling systems.
Construction begins at the end of 2026 as part of the airport's larger Terminal Expansion and Modernization Program. The project will increase passenger capacity and support future gate additions.
Matt Coughlin, executive director of Pensacola International Airport, said the grant accelerates critical infrastructure improvements. "This investment allows us to enhance the passenger experience and position PNS for the next generation of growth," he said.
Mayor D.C. Reeves noted the grant reduces reliance on airport bonds and passenger fees. "Receiving these grant dollars ultimately helps keep costs low," Reeves said.
