A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for St. Clair County, including Pell City and Moody, by the NWS Birmingham, AL, effective today at 12:59 PM CDT. Prepare for hazardous winds, moderate flooding, and the potential for tornadoes; secure property and heed all watches and warnings.
ST. CLAIR COUNTY, AL – A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for St. Clair County, including Pell City and Moody, effective today, October 8, 2026, at 12:59 PM CDT by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Birmingham, AL. The watch is set to expire at 9:00 PM CDT.
Residents should plan for hazardous wind of equivalent tropical storm force. Efforts to protect property, such as securing porches, awnings, carports, and unanchored mobile homes, should be underway immediately. Act now to complete preparations before winds become hazardous. Expect peak winds of 10-20 mph with gusts up to 40 mph, with the potential for winds of 39 to 57 mph. Limited damage to property and trees, as well as scattered power outages, are possible.
A Flood Watch is also in effect. Emergency plans should include the potential for moderate flooding from heavy rain, with peak rainfall amounts of 2-4 inches and locally higher amounts. Consider protective actions if you are in an area vulnerable to flooding and heed all flood watches and warnings. Moderate rainfall flooding may prompt evacuations and rescues, and some roads may become impassable.
The situation is somewhat favorable for a few tornadoes. Emergency plans should include this potential. If your shelter is particularly vulnerable to tornadoes, prepare to relocate to a safe shelter before hazardous weather arrives. If a tornado warning is issued, be ready to shelter quickly. Limited tornado damage is possible, including roof damage, toppled chimneys, and downed trees.
