St. Clair County is under a Tropical Storm Watch, issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Birmingham, effective October 9 at 4:08 AM CDT. Residents in affected areas, including Pell City and Moody, should immediately begin preparations for hazardous conditions.

The NWS forecasts peak winds of 15-25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph, with potential for sustained winds of 39 to 57 mph. Damage to unsecured outdoor items, tree limbs, and some power outages are possible. Efforts to protect property should be underway now. Complete all preparations before winds become hazardous.

A Flood Watch is also in effect. One to three inches of rain are expected, with locally higher amounts, leading to potential moderate flooding. This could cause rivers and tributaries to swell, and floodwaters may enter structures in vulnerable areas. Heed all flood watches and warnings; evacuations and rescues are possible. If you are in a flood-prone area, consider protective actions.

The NWS indicates an unfavorable situation for tornadoes at this time, with tornadoes not expected. However, gusty winds may accompany showers and thunderstorms.

The Tropical Storm Watch is set to expire on October 9 at 12:15 PM UTC. For more information, visit ready.gov/hurricanes.
